A: As a reminder to all international travelers, each country has their own visa requirements. Country specific visa requirements for U.S. citizens can be found at: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages.html. Make sure to start your visa application well in advance of your travel since getting a visa can take several weeks to a month.

There are several ways to get a visa. You can apply directly with the country’s embassy/consulate, or you can use a private visa service. There are many services available so make sure to shop around since their prices will vary. Some visa services recommended by frequent travelers:

  • Travisa
  • Travel Document Systems
  • CIBT

For faculty and scholars visiting from outside the U.S., please contact your sponsoring academic department and/or the office of Immigration Services for Faculty & Scholars (ISFS). They can advise on the type of visa required for your particular situation as well as the necessary paperwork to obtain said visa.

A: The Study Abroad Office has a grant called the “Globetrotter Grant” that is a competitive travel grant for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at Texas A&M University. For more information please go to Globetrotter | A&M Requirements.

There are a number of other opportunities for scholarships and financial aid which can be found on the Funding page of the Study Abroad Programs Office site.

Undergraduate students in the University Honors Program are eligible to apply for awards through the Honors Travel Fund. For more information, visit the Honors Travel Fund site.

For funds to present research:

The LAUNCH Undergraduate Research Scholars program offers limited travel awards for students in the URS program to present research at national and international conferences. For more information, visit the Resources page of the Undergraduate Research site or email ugr@tamu.edu.

The Office of Graduate and Professional Studies also offers limited travel reimbursement for graduate students conducting or presenting research abroad. For more information please visit the OGAPS RAP Travel Award site.

The Texas A&M chapter of SigmaXi Scientific Research Honor Society offers competitive research presentation travel awards for both undergraduate and graduate students. For more information, visit the Awards page of the SigmaXi site.
