On Capitol Hill for AAVMC

What a privilege to spend time on Capitol Hill this month with Representative Bill Flores from Texas’ 17th Congressional District and House Agriculture Committee Chairman K. Michael Conaway along with faculty, veterinarians, AAVMC members, deans from other veterinary colleges, Aggie interns working at the Capitol, and of course our awesome government relations people, who helped to plan the event honoring our 100-year anniversary.

Womack Receives AAVMC Award at Convention in D.C.

Dr. James Womack, a distinguished professor in the VTPB, was honored with the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges’ (AAVMC) 2016 Excellence in Research Award. He accepted the award at the 2016 AAVMC convention held from March 2 to March 6 in Washington D.C.

Three CVM Faculty Recognized with University-Level Distinguished Achievement Awards

The Texas A&M Association of Former Students honored Dr. Wesley Bissett, Dr. Jeffery M.B. Musser, and Dr. Ashley Saunders with University-Level Distinguished Achievement Awards, one of the highest honors presented by the AFS.

Erin Black Receives the Dr. Jack Walther Leadership Award

Erin Black, a third-year veterinary student at the CVM, won the Western Veterinary Conference’s Dr. Jack Walther Leadership Award for her leadership and commitment in the veterinary profession.

2016 Annual AAVMC Conference Celebrates “Fifty and Forward”

The AAVMC’s 50th Anniversary Celebration concluded with an epic annual conference and Gala Celebration centered around the theme of “Fifty and Forward.” AAVMC President Dr. Eleanor Green concluded with a gaze into the future of academic veterinary medicine and challenged faculty and administrators to embrace their role as change agents in an emerging new world of veterinary medicine.

TVMA Celebrates the CVM's 100 Years

This year’s Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) conference proved to be a special time for our college, as the TVMA toasted the CVM’s 100-year anniversary. Approximately 300 attendees gathered in San Marcos, TX to participate in continuing education, socialize with colleagues, and enjoy an impressive exhibit hall.

Texas A&M Researchers “Paint” the Congo African Grey Parrot’s Chromosomes

Congo African grey parrots are well known for their intelligence and beloved by many as pets, but little is known about their genetic make up. Researchers at the CVM are changing that by studying the parrot’s chromosomes.

The Director General of the World Organisation for Animal Health visits the Texas A&M CVM

On March 2, the CVM and the Institute for Infectious Animal Diseases, a unit of Texas A&M AgriLife Research, co-hosted Dr. Monique Eloit, director general of the World Organisation for Animal Health.

USDA Partners with CET to Employ Continuing Education Program for Foreign Animal Disease Diagnosticians

The USDA and the Center for Educational Technologies (CET) at the CVM announced a cooperative agreement for the creation of a continuing education program for foreign animal disease diagnosticians. The partnership will provide a sustainable continuing education program for veterinary diagnosticians and animal health technicians.

CVM Booth at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

Faculty, staff, and student volunteers represented the CVM at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo from March 1 to March 20. The volunteers worked at a booth where rodeo visitors could learn about the CVM and its service to the community. The Aggie night reception was held on Friday, March 18.

Dr. Larry Johnson Presented “Examining Plant and Animal Cells!”

Dr. Larry Johnson, principal investigator of the CVM ‘s Partnership for Environmental Education and Rural Health (PEER), presented a video conference titled “Examining Plant and Animal Cells!” The video was viewed live by 3,540 K-12 students and their 141 teachers from 14 states.

Visitors from Paraguay

A group of ranchers and seven veterinarians from Paraguay visited the CVM on March 1. They were hosted by Dr. Darryl McDonald and toured the Large Animal Hospital, where they learned about the unique work being done at the CVM.

Heifer International Benefit Banquet

The CVM Classes of ’17 and ’19 welcome you to attend the third annual Heifer International Benefit Banquet on April 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Thomas G. Hildebrand, DVM ’56 Equine Complex. Tickets are being sold in the academic mall.
