Small Animal Hospital Opens Remodeled Lobby

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – On Monday, Feb. 8, the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVM) opened its doors to a newly remodeled front lobby at the Small Animal Hospital. The new lobby’s total square footage has expanded to 2300 square feet—another 1500 square feet of renovation will begin shortly.

Operations of the Small Animal Hospital have far outgrown the capacity of the current facility, prompting the renovation. The interior expansion and recently completed renovation offers a newly remodeled lobby/waiting area/reception space, a new reception and discharge desk, three new exam rooms, and easy access to the pharmacy.

The expansion of the Small Animal Hospital lobby also created the opportunity for a new face to the hospital. A stone-faced canopy welcomes clients and visitors with the hospital name in 14-inch tall, bronze letters. The sign is easily seen from Raymond Stotzer Parkway in both directions and is lit at night to guide clients to the Small Animal Hospital for our emergency room services.

The last phase of the renovation will include the addition of two more exam rooms, a comfortable waiting lounge, and updated restrooms.

“The new lobby represents a commitment to our clients and their owners. Adding more space and the latest technology will assist us in incorporating a better flow from entry to exam room, from prescription ordering to pick-up, and from admission to check out,” said Dr. Eleanor M. Green, the Carl B. King dean of veterinary medicine. “We are very excited about this renovation to our front lobby. This will not only assist our clients in receiving outstanding service but will be felt by our visitors and by our dedicated, front-line personnel.”

The $2 million for the renovation of the lobby was funded from the Permanent University Fund (PUF), which was established in the Texas Constitution of 1876 as a public endowment contributing to the support of the institutions of the Texas A&M and University of Texas Systems.

“The hospital is proud of their newly renovated and expanded lobby,” said Dr. David Nelson, interim director of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). “We have been focusing on providing each client with a rewarding experience related to their visit to the VMTH. The sleek modern look, the separate waiting area for the feline patients, and the spacious pharmacy dovetail with our new client liaisons’ goal to provide the rich experience that our clients deserve.”

Green noted that the opportunity to renovate the lobby was exciting for the college. “We wanted to design a lobby that would not only meet our needs now but also would be flexible enough to meet our needs in the next 100 years. This year, we are celebrating our 100th anniversary,” Green said. “We are excited to continue building and growing our facilities and services.”
