at Texas A&M

In conjunction with Texas A&M’s Office of Global Engagement and with support from units across campus, we hope to engage Texas A&M University and, more importantly, Texas A&M students with the prestigious exchange program Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) for Young Professionals, co-sponsored by the United States Department of State and the German Bundestag (parliament) and administered by Cultural Vistas.

Does CBYX sound familiar? In addition to this program for 18 1/2 to 24-year-olds, there’s a program for high school students (more info about the CBYX high school program) as well as one for US students finishing high school who are interested in vocational training, an area in which Germany excels. To learn more about the post-secondary program we’ll be working with at Texas A&M, please visit the CBYX for Young Professionals website.
The German fellows in this program have been nominated by a member of the German Bundestag and gone through a very stringent selection process. Their experience in the United States generally consists of auditing coursework in the fall semester and a paid internship related to their field of professional training for the remainder of their time.
As a way to provide Texas A&M students with more information about this program (its very existence, to start with!) and a view into how it works, we are hoping to host an incoming student on this program here at Texas A&M from mid-August 2025 through the end of June 2026. In order to do this, we must find a HOST FAMILY for this German visitor.
The fellows are expected to become part of the host families’ lives — exchange culture, celebrate birthday and holidays together, help with chores around the house and such. Many families take their German visitors to visit local sites of interest, invite them on family vacations, and share their hobbies. At the same time, they are young adults, and they will want to connect with people their own age and make lasting friendships beyond the host family.
If you are interested in exploring the opportunity to host a participant in this program in your home, here are some resources for you:
Once you feel ready to apply, please complete the host family questionnaire and submit it to Dr. Laura Weber (LWeber@tamu.edu). If you have questions not addressed in the resources linked above, you can also contact her for more information.
