Biography
Dr. Elane was born in Laurel, Maryland, where he grew up enjoying flat-track Thoroughbred racing. Following graduation from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, he completed two internships and was accepted for a combined Master’s and surgical residency at the University of Florida. He then completed his PhD at North Carolina State University before accepting a tenure-track position in equine soft tissue surgery at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS). His research interests focus on equine colic, mechanisms of ischemia and reperfusion injury, and improving postoperative outcomes for surgical colic patients.
