Ashley became interested in veterinary medicine at a young age when she found a kitten and learned a lot while taking it to the vet. Her career path is public health, the intersection of human and animal medicine. She wants to work for the government as an outbreak investigator so she can save the world.

Aurash was interested in veterinary medicine since he was a child. He is currently leaning towards small animal medicine. In this interview he shares his path to vet school and gives tips to potential vet students.

Beverly Crocker

Interest: Mixed Animal Practice
Class of 2015 (1st yr student)
Beverly became interested in veterinary medicine in middle school because her family worked with a wildlife rehabilitation center and she had always been around animals. She also loved science classes in school. Her main interest is mixed animal medicine so she can work anywhere and on any type of animal.

Brian Smolik

Brian has loved animals since he was young. Then, in school, science peaked his interest. He is interested in mixed practice because his family has raised cattle. He got his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M.

Chanel Berns

Interest: Small Animal esp. Surgery
Class of 2019 (1st yr student)
Chanel became interested in veterinary medicine when her childhood vet saved the family dog. She wants to go into small animal medicine with an emphasis on cardiovascular surgery. She will start vet school in the fall of 2015.

Crissy Allstott

Interest: Exotics esp. Avian
Class of 2013 (3rd yr student)
Crissy became interested in being a veterinarian as a child and was mainly involved with small animals. Her main interest is exotics, especially avian (birds). She has 6 birds and loves working with parrots.

Courtney Conley

Interest: Zoo Medicine
Class of 2015 (1st yr student)
Courtney has been interested in veterinary medicine since she was about 10 years old. Her main interests are small animals and zoo medicine. She started preparing early with a special high school course and continued with a bachelor’s degree in animal science with a focus on pre-veterinary medicine at Texas A&M Commerce where she was thrown into large animal medicine.

Jennifer Goodwin

Interest: Mixed Animal Practice
Class of 2015 (1st yr student)
Jennifer has always had lots of animals and wanted to go to vet school. After working in a mixed animal practice for 3 years, she decided that would be her path. She was interested in public health so she went on a mission trip to Honduras where she got to vaccinate animals and take part in public health, but she still wants to be a mixed animal veterinarian.

 

Justin Casares

Justin lived on a ranch as a child and loved animals. A interest in veterinary medicine developed in junior high when he became involved with FFA. He wants to go into large animal medicine. In this interview he shares his path to vet school and gives tips to potential vet students.

Lacy Parson

Interest: Research/Lab Animal Medicine
Class of 2015 (1st yr student)
Lacy has always wanted to be a vet but had other interests as well such as music. She decided to go into research/lab animal medicine after working at a vet clinic where a patient died that had the same type of seizures as her best friend. She is still working on her research master’s degree while in vet school.

Laura Ron

Interest: Emergency Medicine

Laura became interested in veterinary medicine at a very young age and has always loved animals, problem solving, and helping people. Her main interest is emergency medicine due to the cool cases that come into emergency.

Leslie Wagner

Interest: Food Animal Medicine
Class of 2015 (1st yr student)
Leslie got interested in veterinary medicine at a young age because she loved animals. Her main interest is food animal medicine. She loves ranching, agriculture, and the relationship between vets and the producers in that industry. She also loves academia and would consider teaching someday.

Michelle Bouche-Smith

Interest: Mixed Animal Medicine
Class of 2015 (1st yr student)
Michelle became interested in veterinary medicine when very young. After college she decided to get a PhD but, half way through, decided that it wasn’t for her and that she had a love for veterinary medicine. Her main interest is to have a mixed animal practice.

Mikaela Stanislav

Interest: Large Animal esp. Equine
Class of 2019 (1st yr student)
Mikaela became interested in veterinary medicine as a sophomore in college. She developed an interest in large animal medicine on a study abroad trip in Scotland. She will start her first year of vet school in the fall of 2015.

 

Mike McEntire

Interest: Zoo and Equatic Animal
Class of 2017 (3rd yr student)
Mike has wanted to be veterinarian for a long time. He enjoys science and came to really enjoy the medicine aspect of the veterinary profession. He is interested in zoo and aquatic animals and has actually worked in zoos and aquariums.

Nicole Wright

Interest: Mixed Animal Medicine
Class of 2015 (1st yr student)
Nicole became interested in medicine when very young and had to decide between veterinary medicine and human medicine. She originally wanted to work with small animals and horses. Now she is leaning toward small animal only, but she is still tracking mixed animal so that she will be prepared for anything.

Nikki Lejeune

Interest: Mixed Animal Practice
Class of 2017 (3rd yr student)
Nikki became interested in veterinary medicine at a young age and grew to realize her love for science, animals, and working with people. Her career path is mixed animal or food animal medicine.

Tony became interested in veterinary medicine when he started undergraduate studies at A&M. He interested in emergency medicine especially in exotic animals. In this interview he shares his path to vet school and gives tips to potential vet students.

Abraham Robinson & Hanlin Song

Interest: Mixed/Lab Animal and Small Animal Medicine
Class of 2012 (4th yr students)
Abraham and Hanlin are in their fourth year and are about to graduate. Hanlin was a Biomedical Science major at Texas A&M and loved the veterinary side of it, so she decided to try it out by volunteering at clinics. She wants to go into strictly small animal practice but is going to do an internship first in order to get more mentorship. Abraham has wanted to be a vet since childhood. He loves exotics. In college, he had to decide between becoming a physician and a veterinarian. During vet school he received a PhD in toxicology. He is now going into the field of research/lab animal medicine.


Devin Smith

Interest: Undecided
3rd year student
Devin participated in numerous high school extracurricular activities such as FFA and volleyball. She discusses what inspired her to become a vet, the importance of involvement as an undergraduate student, and what skills helped her during the application process. Devin has not decided which field of veterinary medicine she will pursue, but she provides a description of a few of her favorite fields.

Becky Dowd

Interest: Research/One Health
2nd year student
Becky is currently working in a lab that studies Chagas Disease in dogs. Becky enjoys participating in research that will improve diagnostics and treatment of animals. She loves being a part of a field that presents a vast amount of career opportunities.

Danielle Vaden Anderson

Interest: Public Health/Conservation Medicine
2nd year student
Danielle is interested in studying public health and conservation medicine. One of her favorite parts of veterinary school is the community of friends that she has made. Danielle participated in research and One Health during her time as an undergraduate student. She is currently enjoying fostering dogs and she looks forward to a career in veterinary medicine.

Emily Hoskins

Interest: Research

Emily has degrees in both music and animal science and a masters degree in physiology and reproduction in animal science. She has completed research over sheep reproduction, and enjoys the vast amount of career opportunities that veterinary medicine has provided for her and her classmates.

Paige Roth

Interest: Large Animal/Equine Medicine
2nd year student
Paige is a second year veterinary student from Denver, Colorado. Her involvement in pony club taught her about caring for horses and eventually helped her to find a career path in veterinary medicine. She is currently involved in an Equine lab where she participates in research.

Zachary Seyler

Interest: Internal Medicine
2nd year student
Zackary decided that he wanted to be a vet after shadowing in a clinic. He is currently participating in research over fungal infections. He looks forward to specializing in internal medicine.

Alyssa Kool

Interest: Surgery

Alyssa is from Plano, Texas. She loves the Aggie family, and she wants to specialize in surgery.

 

Skye Sneed

Interest: Avian and Conservation Medicine
2nd year student
Skye is interested in avian and conservation medicine. She has a degree in biology with a focus in ecology, evolution, and animal behavior. Her previous jobs have taught her valuable information about birds and plants that she is now able to use during her time as a veterinary student.

Ian is from Marshall, Texas. He is unsure of which veterinary field he wants to pursue; however he is considering specializing. He discusses strategies that have benefited his career as a student in the veterinary field.

Chelsea Folmar

Interest: Large Animal/Equine Medicine

Chelsea grew up on a farm and has always aspired to be a veterinarian. She hopes to specialize in Equine internal medicine and enjoys studying horses. She participates in many extracurricular activities such as art shows and open houses.


Melodie Raese

Interest: Military/Army/Specialty
Melodie is an Army HPSP Scholarship recipient who is a part of both the military and veterinary school. She discusses career opportunities for veterinarians in the military and the financial benefits that she has gained for her education.

Erin is an out of state veterinary student from Arkansas. She discusses why she decided to attend Texas A&M, and the opportunities for out of state students.

Nikki is a third year student with a degree in animal science, Emily is a second year student, and Dr. Anton Hoffman is a professor at Texas A&M’s Vet School. They discuss the logistics of vet school and what it takes to become a successful veterinary student.

Elise decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine after her time as an undergraduate student. She has two undergraduate degrees; one in wildlife and fisheries and another in zoology. She shares her unique experience of preparing for veterinary school and provides advice for getting the most from your time in veterinary school.
