The mission of the Yang lab@TAMU is to understand how viruses replicate to expand the knowledge of both viruses and their hosts, and to develop novel strategies combating human and animal viral diseases. We mainly study poxviruses.
In parallel, we strive to train and educate the next generation of scientists.

Zhilong has been promoted to Professor, effective September 1, 2025.

Congrats to Anil, Djamal, Lara, Ziyue, Santiago, and our collaborators Lalita, Zhengqiang (ZQ) and Sathesh for the new publication “Suppression of poxvirus replication by SC144”.

The 2025 XXV International Poxvirus, Asfarvirus, and Iridovirus Conference, May 18-23, 2025, San Antonio, Texas, USA was a great success. Yan Xiang from University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and Zhilong Yang co-organized the meeting. ~140 scientists from five continents gathered to discuss the latest advancements and breakthroughs in Poxviruses, Asfarviruses, and Iridoviruses. Five other members of the Yang lab attended the meeting, presented their work, and volunteered to help organize the meeting.
