Biography
"I am lucky enough to get to participate in clinical practice, clinically oriented research, and training of new veterinarians. As a clinician and teacher at a tertiary referral hospital, I get to see unusual cases that challenge me to find ways to improve our profession’s ability to diagnose and treat veterinary neurological disease. My experience with these patients guides my research interests, which focus on evaluation of the quality of existing diagnostics, exploration of novel relationships between neurological and systemic disease processes, examination of the basic biology of poorly understood diseases, and novel therapeutic approaches to difficult clinical problems. I enjoy collaborating with veterinary neurological specialists at partner institutions on these projects. I am also involved in collaboration with research groups from human medicine that work on similar problems. In my role as a mentor to clinical year students and veterinary house officers, I hope to offer others opportunities to begin careers in research and stimulate their interest in the important role of clinician-scientists in veterinary medicine."
