Soft Tissue Surgery:
- Surgical Site Infection Prevention and Control
Biography
"Dr. Kelley Thieman is a small animal soft tissue surgeon. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri in 2006 and completed a residency in surgery at the University of Florida before joining Texas A&M University as a faculty member in 2011. She is dedicated to teaching veterinary students, residents, and interns about soft tissue surgery. Kelley has advanced the use of minimally invasive surgery in the Small Animal Teaching Hospital’s Soft Tissue and Minimally Invasive Surgery clinical service and has promoted many advanced laparoscopic procedures. Kelley participates as an instructor in laparoscopic and thoracoscopic teaching laboratories across the country. She is also committed to teaching veterinary students and training veterinary interns and residents. Kelley has several research interests, many focusing on surgical site infections or the prevention and management of infected wounds, brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, and the advancement of minimally invasive surgery. Many of Kelley’s publications are practical and contain information that is immediately suitable for veterinarians to apply to their practice. She has also contributed to department leadership, first as the Chief Medical Officer (2021-2024), and then as the Associate Department Head beginning in 2024."
