I am a veterinary pathologist and researcher with over 15 years of experience working with infectious diseases with a strong emphasis on brucellosis. My research interests focus on the development of improved vaccines and diagnostic tests that could be used under resource-limited settings. I have a strong interest in zoonotic and transboundary infectious diseases that is supported by continued and on-going international “Global One Health” capacity building and research collaborations in multiple regions around the globe including South America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East. My programs are funded by multiple federal agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), NIH Fogarty International, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Sonia Vection

Sonia Vection, PhD

Postdoctoral Research Associate
svection@exchange.tamu.edu | 979-845-9814

Focus Area: My research interests currently focus on the development of improved diagnostic tools for animal brucellosis, more particularly B. canis which infects dogs, based on new immunodominant proteins.

Anna Yeristyan

Anna Yeristyan, PhD

Postdoctoral Research Associate
anna_y@tamu.edu

Focus Area: My research interests focus on economic analysis of policy interventions for animal diseases. Currently, I work on assessing economic feasibility of different strategies for preventing brucellosis by conducting cost-benefit analyses of those interventions.

Focus Area: My research interests focus on the development of safe and effective vaccines for veterinary use, the global impact of zoonotic diseases and their importance on public health.

Juan Garzon Duarte

Juan Garzon Duarte

Veterinary Student (Colombia)
jugarzond@tamu.edu

Focus Area: I am interested in enhancing my understanding and knowledge of immunology and immunization, and am particularly interested in the clinical manifestations of diseases and methods to prevent their occurrence.

Salome Rave

Salome Rave

Veterinary Student (Colombia)
mariarave@tamu.edu

Focus areas: My focus areas include zoonotic diseases, reproductive health, and reproductive management in ruminants and small ruminants. I am particularly interested in understanding the immune response of Brucella and how this can relate to a vaccination response in order to mitigate the effects of the disease in reproduction efficiency and public health.
