Dr. Vana Mahabir

Vana is originally from the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago. She completed her DVM at the University of the West Indies (UWI), School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) St. Augustine Campus in 2018. She then spent time working as a teaching assistant, research assistant and veterinarian at the UWI, SVM from 2018 – 2021 in the Large Animal Hospital and Basic Clinical Sciences Department. She spent 2021-2022 in small animal private practice in Trinidad. She then completed her master’s degree at the Texas A&M University Comparative Endocrinology Lab in 2024. In 2025 Vana was accepted into the GI lab at Texas A&M to pursue a PhD. Her PhD research will be focused on developing biomarkers for canine hepatic disease.

Outside of the lab she enjoys beach days, and spending time with her dog, Lucy.
