Erin Black Receives the Dr. Jack Walther Leadership Award

Erin Black, a third-year veterinary student at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, won the Western Veterinary Conference’s (WVC) Dr. Jack Walther Leadership Award for her leadership and commitment in the veterinary profession.

Black was awarded $1,000 and complimentary registration, lodging, airfare, and a stipend to attend the 2016 WVC Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada to receive her award in person.

Black is currently the president of the dermatology club and women’s veterinary leadership development initiative. She is also the student company representative for Dechra Pharmaceuticals, the treasurer of the Student Chapter of the International Veterinary Association of Pain Management, and she works as an emergency technician at the emergency room at the Small Animal Hospital.

“I am honored to be a recipient of the Jack Walther Leadership Award,” Black said. “The award will help me pursue an alternative track in public health with a focus on global medicine and health during my fourth and final year!”

The annual award recognizes veterinary students who portray dedication and promote lifelong service to veterinary medicine. Black was one of 33 DVM students from various universities across the country who was selected for this award.
