Students ‘Unite’ for Remembrance Day

CVM United

One in every six veterinarians will consider suicide at some point during their career. To combat this statistic, the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVM) joined with the #VetMedUnited movement on April 4 to remember veterinarians and veterinary students who have been lost to suicide.

In addition to offering wellness carts and refreshments in the VBEC courtyard, Aggies wore maroon that day as a show of solidarity and took a group picture that morning. A banner with CVM student and staff signatures also was hung in the courtyard.

In the afternoon, the college observed a school-wide moment of silence for those lost.

“The goal of this day is to raise awareness and end this within our profession,” said Garrett Crooks, veterinary student and #VetMedUnited event organizer. “We also look forward to the future and to ending this problem through support of each other and the utilization of our resources as we break the stigma surrounding mental health.”
