White Coat Ceremony Honors Second-Year Veterinary Students

Spring 2016 White Coat Ceremony

On April 1, 2016, second-year veterinary students at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVM) received their white coats at the annual White Coat Ceremony held in Rudder Theatre. The ceremony marks the transition of veterinary students from coursework in the classroom to their clinical work.

The ceremony began with welcoming remarks from Dr. Eleanor M. Green, the Carl B. King of veterinary medicine.  “You are now halfway through! The white coat is an honor and a privilege,” she said. “This is a historic White Coat Ceremony. It’s the only White Coat ceremony held during the college’s centennial.”

Dr. O.J. “Bubba” Woytek, assistant vice president of development & alumni relations at the CVM gave a brief history of the White Coat Ceremony and the White Coat Endowment, which honors the legacy of Jeanne Fairweather, M.D. Immediately after, Dr. Kentia Rogers, executive associate dean, presented each second-year veterinary student with their white coat.

The ceremony closed with remarks from Green and a reception in Rudder Exhibit Hall honoring the white coat recipients.
