VERO Facility at West Texas A&M

Where is VERO?

VERO is part of the Paul Engler College of Agriculture & Natural Sciences on the campus of West Texas A&M University (WT) in Canyon, Texas.

The WT campus is embedded within one of the most abundant areas of animal agriculture production in the world. This unprecedented collaboration with WT allows the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) to bring fundamental training and research back to the heart of large animal production agriculture in Texas. Its dynamic partnership with the agriculture program at WT is what makes VERO so robust.

About the Facility

Inside the VERO facility at West Texas A&M

The new VERO facility, now occupied, is located directly to the east of the Happy State Bank Academic & Research Building. The more than 22,000-square-foot facility will serve as a learning space to serve the 2+2 DVM program and supplement veterinary externship programs in rural Texas.

The VERO facility includes multiple classrooms, each of which will accommodate 30–50 students. These will also be used for outreach activities, including the training of livestock workers and continuing education for veterinarians.

“These new state-of-the-art facilities create a highway of education, research, and outreach activity from West Texas A&M University to the Texas A&M VMBS and back that supports animal health in this region. This partnership brings together the Texas A&M University System’s universities to extend their reach and address the large animal veterinary needs of Texas.” —Dr. Walter Wendler, President of WTAMU
