Our laboratory has more than 15 years of experience in the area of infectious diseases with a strong emphasis on brucellosis vaccine development.

Dr. Arenas was trained under the supervision of Dr. Thomas Ficht and Allison Rice-Ficht, two of the most well-known and recognized investigators in the area of brucellosis. Under their supervision and later as an independent scientist, Dr. Arenas has been deeply involved in the discovery and characterizing of a very promising vaccine candidate for human and animal use.

As a veterinarian and a Board Certified Anatomic Pathologist, Dr. Arenas has extensive experience in the development and use of animal models for infectious disease research including immunodoeficient and immunotolerant mouse models, small ruminants, cattle, deer and recently swine and guinea pigs.
