Development and Evaluation of a Vaccine against Brucellosis

Title: Development and Evaluation of a Vaccine against Brucellosis

Description: This study is aimed toward determining the efficacy and safety of a new vaccine candidate Two nanny goats in a pen facing the camerafor sheep/goats against brucellosis. Currently, the commercially available vaccines are highly pathogenic for their targeted species during pregnancy, are resistant to antimicrobials, and are highly virulent to people. To overcome these obstacles, our group has focused on the development of an improved vaccine that has proven to be safer and efficacious in a wide array of experimental animal models of infection. We intend to conduct vaccine efficacy studies in the natural hosts (sheep/goats) that will provide the necessary data to advance the product towards commercialization. In this study, we will be evaluating the ability of the vaccine to: 1) reduce or prevent the number of abortions, 2) reduce or prevent the infection, and 3) demonstrate safety in downstream food products (i.e., milk and carcass).
