African Horse Sickness

Description

African horse sickness (AHS) is a highly fatal, insect-borne viral disease of horses and mules and generally a subclinical disease in other Equidae. The clinical signs and lesions result from selective increased vascular permeability and are characterized by an impairment of the respiratory and circulatory systems.
