Vaccine biology

Vaccine biology is addressed through a series of questions answered by Dr. Ian Tizard, Distinguished Professor of Immunology in Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX.

Vaccine Biology by an Immunologist

Get to know Dr. Ian Tizard?

Introduction:

The two main functions of immunity are to prevent foreign invaders of the body and to maintain a germ-free environment within the body. Dr. Tizard describes two main foreign invaders of the body (bacteria and viruses) although these are others (worms, protozoa, and fungi). He continues by telling how immunity fights invaders of the body and how vaccines historically have been effective in preventing and eradicating several diseases induced by invaders of the body.

Basic immunity – Fighting invaders of the body:

He describes immunity, its role and mechanisms to prevent disease, how vaccination facilitates immunity, how scientists determine if a vaccine is safe, and some triumphs of vaccination in preventing and eradicating diseases in the world.

Vaccine hesitancy

Vaccine hesitancy is addressed through a series of questions answered by Dr. Ian Tizard, Distinguished Professor of Immunology in Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University in College Station TX.

Science of the coronavirus:

Science of the coronavirus: Science delivers evolving knowledge, coronavirus genetic code, and coronavirus vaccines.

Coronavirus vaccines:

Dr. Tizard describes coronavirus vaccines with its development to attack coronavirus, how coronavirus vaccines work with the immune system, availability of vaccines, why coronavirus vaccine can make you sick temporally, its effectiveness, the absence of tracking devices, why should we get the coronavirus vaccine, and why nearly everyone (for herd immunity) needs to receive the coronavirus vaccine.

Importance of vaccinations:

Why should we get the coronavirus vaccine?

Vaccine hesitancy reassurances:

Dr. Tizard describes COVID-19, its possible relationship between bats and coronavirus, steps to stop COVID-19, how scientists determine that the COVID-19 Vaccines are safe, real world evidence of success of COVID-19 vaccines, COVID 19 vaccines available in the United States and other countries, and why some vaccinated people get sick from COVID-19. He describes how COVID-19 virus changed over time, why more young people are getting sick, and how new variants evolve to become more infectious?

Vaccine hesitancy myths:

Dr. Tizard defines vaccine hesitancy and described why vaccinated individuals might get or die from COVID-19, why those already had COVID-19 need to get vaccinated too, why some parents hesitant to vaccinate their children, the lack of unsafe chemicals in vaccines, does the vaccine induce Covid-19, and how do vaccines get the mRNA into cells to induce the immune response.
