American Academy of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics

Teaching Award recognizes significant teaching activities in the fields of veterinary or comparative pharmacology or therapeutics.

Service Award recognizes exceptional and sustained service either to AAVPT or to the profession of veterinary or comparative pharmacology, or therapeutics, at large.

American Association for the Advancement of Science

Elected Fellow honors members for their significant contributions across various fields, including research, teaching, and technology, to administration in academia, industry, and government, to excellence in communication and interpreting science to the public.

American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP)

Award of Excellence is awarded to individuals who have significantly advanced bovine medicine. It recognizes contributions to education for bovine practitioners, active roles in veterinary organizations, impactful publications, meaningful relationships within the bovine industry, and efforts in regulatory or legislative activities that benefit the field.

The Merck Animal Health Mentor of the Year Award is awarded to individuals in practice and other veterinary professions who have served as both advisors and role models to pre-veterinary and/or veterinary students. 

American Association of Equine Practitioners

Research Award is presented to those who highlight the value of equine research and give recognition to an individual who has recently completed research that has or will make a significant impact on the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of equine disease. 

American College of Veterinary Pathologists

Mentor of the Year recognizes pathologists who are outstanding mentors to veterinary students interested in pathology. The award is given in recognition of exceptional and sustained service to the AAVPT and the profession of veterinary pharmacology.

Mid-Career Excellence Award recognizes outstanding ACVP Diplomates who contribute exceptional leadership to the veterinary pathology profession by mid-career.

American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine

Distinguished Diplomate Award recognizes diplomates who have significantly contributed to the college of the field of veterinary preventive medicine.

American College of Veterinary Surgeons

Al and Carolyn Schiller Distinguished Service Award recognizes and honors recipients for outstanding contributions related to the functions of the ACVS.

The ACVS Foundation Lynn Wheaton Philanthropy Award recognizes ACVS Diplomates who demonstrate intentional and altruistic social responsibility through their work with a community, association, or other nonprofit organization. 

American Philosophical Society

Elected Member – The organization honors and engages distinguished scholars, scientists, and professionals through elected membership and interdisciplinary fellowship opportunities, particularly at semi-annual meetings. It promotes research and discovery via grants, fellowships, lectures, publications, prizes, exhibitions, and educational initiatives.

American Physiological Society

Elected Fellow – An esteemed member status reserved to honor distinguished leaders who have demonstrated excellence in science, have made significant contributions to physiological sciences and related disciplines and have served the Society.

American Society of Animal Science

Morrison Award – Presented to members of the ASAS who have done outstanding recent research with direct importance in livestock production.

American Veterinary Medical Association

AVMA Award recognizes one distinguished AVMA member each year who has exerted outstanding leadership in building stronger local, state, or regional associations or has contributed to the improvement of the national organization.

Career Achievement in Canine Research Award – Honors an AVMA member’s long-term contribution to the field of canine research. 

Clinical Research Award recognizes an AVMA member veterinarian for achievements in patient-oriented research, including the study of disease mechanisms, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials, the development of new technologies, and epidemiological studies.

XII International Veterinary Congress Prize recognizes outstanding service by an AVMA member veterinarian who has contributed to international understanding of veterinary medicine.

American Veterinary Medical Foundation

Winn Feline Foundation Research Award recognizes an AVMA member veterinarian’s long-time contribution to advancing feline health through their research.

American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges

Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award, presented by Zoetis – Awarded annually to a faculty member who was selected by a committee of AAVMC peers.

AAVMC Excellence in Research Award honors those who demonstrate excellence in original research, leadership in the scientific community, and exceptional mentoring of trainees and colleagues in any discipline of veterinary medicine. 

AAVMC Senator John Melcher, DVM, Leadership in Public Policy Award is presented in recognition of leadership in public policy for advancing veterinary medical education.

AAVMC Public Policy Faculty Fellows Program – The faculty fellows’ program is designed to bring AAVMC-member institutions’ faculty representatives to Washington, D.C. to develop leadership skills in the advocacy arena, explore the implications of public policy decisions on the profession, and gain overall knowledge of the legislative and regulatory process at the federal level.

Association for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (AVEPM)

Calvin W. Schwabe Award recognizes lifetime achievement in veterinary epidemiology and preventive medicine.

British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA)

Bourgelat Award honors a member of the veterinary medicine profession who has made significant international contributions to veterinary science, research, education and small animal welfare and clinical practice.

Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute

Excellence in Standards Development Award celebrates the achievements of CLSI volunteers and organizational members who are committed to CLSI’s mission and have helped improve the quality of medical care worldwide. Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases (CRWAD) Fellows

Fellows of the Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases represent an eminent cadre of scientists from all types of research careers, including academia, industry, and government. Election as a CRWAD Fellow is a lifetime honor and all Fellows meet the highest standards of professional ethics and scientific integrity.

Council of Science Editors

Meritorious Achievement – CSE’s highest award and is given to a person or institution that embraces the purposes of CSE–the improvement of scientific communication through the pursuit of high standards in all activities connected with editing. Recipients do not need to be a member of CSE.

Elected Member – Members are elected to the National Academy of Sciences in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Membership is a widely accepted mark of excellence in science and is considered one of the highest honors that a scientist can receive.

National Academy of Inventors Fellows

Senior Member – This prestigious recognition honors individuals who embody an extraordinary spirit of innovation and have made a lasting impact through their outstanding contributions to invention and discovery. Election to NAI Fellow status is the highest professional distinction accorded solely to academic inventors.

National Institute of Health

Individual Research Award – A prestigious grant provided by the NIH. Designed to support promising predoctoral and postdoctoral researchers in health-related fields.

Quantitative Research Career Award, most prominently the NIH’s K25 Mentored Quantitative Research Career Development Award, supports scientists with strong quantitative backgrounds (math, stats, CS, engineering) to transition into health-focused (biomedical, behavioral, bioimaging) research, providing salary, research funds, and protected time for supervised training to become independent investigators in these fields

Perinatal Research Society – Young Investigator Award, supporting early-career researchers in the field of perinatal medicine and developmental biology.

Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU)

Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award – This competitive award is highly regarded in the academic community, serving as public recognition for the quality and promise of research by junior faculty members.

RCSA Scialog: Mitigating Zoonotic Threats Fellows – A multidisciplinary group of early-career researchers to address the global threat to human health from animal-borne infectious diseases.

Southeastern Conference (SEC) Faculty Awards

Professor of the Year -The highest honor presented by the Southeastern Conference. It recognizes one outstanding faculty member annually for their exceptional teaching, research, and scholarship achievements across SEC universities.

Faculty Achievement Award honors those with outstanding records in both teaching and research, who also serve as mentors for students and/or junior faculty members.

Sigma Xi – The Scientific Research Honor Society

Walston Chubb Award for Innovation honors and promotes creativity in science and engineering. The award carries a monetary honorarium and an invitation to give the Walston Chubb Award Lecture at Sigma Xi’s annual meeting.

John P. McGovern Science and Society Award recognize achievements by a scientist or engineer that transcend their career as a researcher.

Outstanding Distinguished Scientist Award recognizes a scientific research society dedicated to promoting excellence in scientific investigations.

Outstanding Science Communicator Award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated consistent dedication and superior effectiveness in improving the communication of scientific research to the general public.

Society of Toxicology

Merit Award – A prestigious honor bestowed upon a Society of Toxicology (SOT) member who has demonstrated distinguished contributions to toxicology throughout their career.

Translational Impact Award and Lecture – A prestigious recognition by the SOT to a scientist who has made outstanding contributions to clinical, environmental health, or translational research within the last 10 years. This research must have significantly improved human and/or public health in an area of toxicological concern.

Philippe Shubik Distinguished Scientist Award recognizes scientists who have led long and productive careers in toxicology, making noteworthy contributions to the field.

Southwest Veterinary Symposium

Visionary of the Year Award honors individuals who elevate the standards and goals of veterinary medicine.

TGS Barbara Bowman Distinguished Geneticist recognizes outstanding geneticists who have made major contributions to the field and have been affiliated with a Texas institution.
