Meet Romy Nederlof: our “wild parrots diet” resident

Romy Nederlof, a 25-year-old biology and animal science student from the Netherlands, has just completed a 6-month internship with us. During her time in Tambopata, she studied the foraging ecology and dietary niche breadths of parrots and macaws.

This work is vital: as climate change shifts fruiting cycles in the rainforest, food availability may decline—posing a serious threat to already endangered psittacines. By deepening our understanding of their diets and foraging habits, Romy’s research helps us develop targeted conservation strategies to better protect these species for the future.

Thanks to the support of Harrison’s Bird Foods, Reserva Nacional Tambopata – Sernanp y ProCiencia, we’re able to host students like Romy and continue vital conservation research in Tambopata.
