Since the late 1980’s Natura Mexicana https://www.naturamexicana.org.mx/conservaci%C3%B3n-de-la-guacamaya-roja has been working on the front lines of conservation in the Lacantun forest in the southern tip of Chiapas, Mexico. They have used nest monitoring, survey transects, hand-rearing and releasing macaws, and environmental education to help conserve Mexico’s largest natural population of Scarlet Macaws.
Since 2017, The Macaw Society and Natura Mexicana have been conducting staff exchanges to improve the research and conservation techniques employed by both organizations.
