Can I take BICH 410 instead of BICH 409?

Yes, BICH 409 and BICH 410 are interchangeable on the BIMS degree plan. If you are planning on going to any professional school, please check with OPSA on the requirements of that school, as some may want you to have completed the second half of Comprehensive Biochemistry.

Will there ever be new courses for BIMS?

Yes. The university has a campus-wide mechanism for course creation. New courses are approved through the curricular review and approval system and include a review by college and university-level curriculum committees. As an interdisciplinary program, BIMS has approved coursework that is interdepartmental and intercollegiate on the Texas A&M campus.

Is my degree plan changing?

Each year Texas A&M publishes the Undergraduate Catalog. Each student is assigned to a catalog based on the year they enter Texas A&M. The Texas A&M core curriculum and required coursework, or equivalents as determined by college and university curricular review, are published in the catalog. Therefore, any changes that are made to the degree plan will only affect future catalogs, yours will remain the same as when you entered. See Catalogs page for more information.

Which Anatomy and Physiology classes do I take?

Starting in the Spring ‘27 semester, we will be revamping our A&P sequence. There will be a couple of paths that are available to you. The Fundamentals Pathway will start with Integrated Human Anatomy and Physiology I (BIOL 319), move on to Integrated Human Anatomy and Physiology II (BIOL 320), and finish with Applied Biomedical Physiology (VTPP 413). The Applied Pathway will start with either Functional Anatomy of Domestic Animals (VIBS 446) OR Human Anatomy (VIBS 402) depending on if you want to take human or animal anatomy. You will then move on to Applied Biomedical Physiology I (VTPP 423), and finish with Applied Biomedical Physiology II (VTPP 427). VIBS 446 will only be offered in Fall semesters, while VIBS 402 will only be offered in Spring semesters.

Can I see any advisor?

Yes, the advising office serves as an Academic Advising Team for each student, giving you the freedom to choose whichever advisor you best connect with.

Where are my advisors located?

Your advisors are in Suite 123 of the VIDI (#1813) Building in the Veterinary & Biomedical Education Complex (VBEC). We also have a Zoom meeting that you can meet virtually with: BIMS Advising Zoom.

When can I meet with my advisor?

The academic advising office is open from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM every weekday, with a break from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM for lunch. We are closed on Fridays from 8:00 – 10:00 AM, as well as on every University holiday. Students (prospective, current, and former) can meet with us either in person or virtually via Zoom. They can either show up as a walk-in without scheduling anything and get placed in a queue or create an appointment. 

How can I create an appointment with an advisor?

Current students can use Navigate to create an appointment. This is the system that the university uses to create appointments with most offices around campus. Prospective or former students can email our office at bims@tamu.edu asking to meet with someone. Please always have your UIN (current students) and your availability in the email so we know when to look for schedule openings.
