Texas A&M Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA)

TEXAS A&M DVM CLASS OF 2028
About Texas A&M SAVMA
The Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) exists to support, empower, and inspire all veterinary students to improve their lives, education, and careers, along with securing a better future for our profession through collaboration with our parent organization, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
The objective of SAVMA is to introduce veterinary students to the concept of organized veterinary medicine; to promote, enhance and support professionalism and veterinary medical education; and to encourage the development and empowerment of students as leaders in the profession of veterinary medicine and the community as a whole. Our chapter’s purpose is to support the veterinary student body at Texas A&M, which is accomplished through financial support for students through grants and scholarships, wellness activities to support mental health, professional development opportunities, and as the umbrella organization for all veterinary student clubs.
SAVMA Programs
Practice Partners

The Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) is very supportive of veterinary students interacting and developing relationships with veterinary colleagues regarding future professional employment opportunities. In order to ensure those relationships are an educational, efficient, and equitable use of time and resources, the VMBS and the Texas A&M SAVMA Chapter collaborated to develop a program to benefit students and our veterinary colleagues seeking to employ veterinary students.
Texas A&M SAVMA Practice Partners is the only method for practices to interact with students, with the exception of the annual Texas A&M VMBS/TVMA Veterinary Job & Externship Fair, held each fall. Veterinary practices who pay to participate in the program have the opportunity to introduce their clinics and engage with veterinary students through the SAVMA chapter through various in-person and online activities.
VetEd Day

Established in 2023, Texas A&M SAVMA’s annual Veterinary Education Day (VetEd Day) is a high-energy, education-driven event during which approximately 200 elementary-aged children from underrepresented populations in Bryan-College Station (BCS) experience hands-on learning opportunities and explore the field of veterinary medicine. As a student-led event, it is entirely planned and implemented by a committee of student leaders as an outreach event for children who otherwise might not be exposed to veterinary medicine.
SAVMA partners with The REACH Project, a nonprofit organization that aims to give back to Texas A&M’s “essential Aggies,” the contract and service workers on Texas A&M’s campus.
“Opportunities like these are truly transformational; many times, these children have never been to the Texas A&M campus and have no idea what it means to be a veterinarian,” said Max Gerall ‘18, the founder of REACH. “When someone grows up in a neighborhood where everyone has a service job, the youth in those neighborhoods seldom learn about any other forms of work. This was a chance to help expand their horizons and to further include them in our Aggie Family.”
